Product registration

We seek to strengthen systems and processes that facilitate the registration of veterinary medicines across Africa.

Our ultimate goal is to expand the range of veterinary products available in target markets across Africa. To achieve this, we facilitate collaboration with key organisations involved in veterinary medicines regulatory initiatives in sub-Saharan Africa to develop strategic approaches that address the challenges associated with product registration in the region. In east Africa, we focus on  the EAC Mutual Recognition Procedure (an initiative that  harmonises  registration of veterinary medicines in the East African Community), and support its extension to other regions in Africa.

Policy and advocacy

Our policy and advocacy activities aim to promote greater private sector involvement in ruminant vaccination for endemic and notifiable livestock diseases in Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

This includes working with authorities and key stakeholders to identify and understand policy and regulatory barriers, particularly those affecting the use of combination vaccines and the private sector’s role in the procurement, supply, and distribution of livestock vaccines. By encouraging dialogue and knowledge-sharing, the aim is to develop practical solutions and mechanisms that allow for collaboration between public and private sectors (PPPs) for effective veterinary service delivery in target countries and regions.

Market access and adoption

We aim to strengthen veterinary service delivery systems through the acceptance and implementation of preventive vaccination in Kenya, Tanzania, and Nigeria.

Market access and adoption activities focus on leveraging strategic partnerships to identify, prioritise, and seek sustainable solutions to systemic weaknesses in livestock extension service provision in target countries. The objective is that authorities, key stakeholders and the local animal health industry are engaged in developing and implementing workable public-private collaborative models for sustainable provision of livestock products and services that will increase the uptake of quality veterinary products by small-scale livestock producers.
