GALVmed has announced the appointment of Dr Peter Jeffries as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Peter Jeffries, who will take over April 2nd, has considerable knowledge of GALVmed, having sat on its board since the formal creation of the charity in 2006.

Peter Jeffries’ new role in the organisation will see him working closely with the GALVmed management team to deliver optimal sustainable benefit to livestock keepers.

Peter is a veterinarian, who worked in England before setting up a veterinary clinic in Zambia which provided employment for the graduates from the veterinary school at the University of Zambia.

Peter has more than 30 years’ experience in the animal health sector and has held management roles in regional marketing, global marketing, strategic marketing, global technical support and business development, having been based in Zambia, Kenya, France and the United States. After 18 year working with Merial, Peter joined Zoetis in 2008, with responsibility for Business Development and Global Alliances for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

On his appointment Peter said: “It is a privilege to be appointed as the Chief Executive of GALVmed. I have had a long history with the organisation, dating back to its inception in 2002 and look forward to working with the management team to drive forward the work that we do. Approximately 900 million people rely on livestock for livelihood and I look forward to building on GALVmed’s successes and addressing challenges that will help improve the lives of livestock keepers.”

Professor Peter Wells, Chairman of GALVmed said of the appointment, “I am delighted that Peter is joining GALVmed as CEO. He has incredibly strong credentials to help drive GALVmed forward. He has an outstanding track record of delivery in his previous roles, and I look forward to working with him closely going forward.”
