Affecting sheep and especially goats, peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is a viral respiratory infection that is highly contagious and fast-spreading. This disease is deadly, and occurs in Africa, the Middle East and India.

PPR spreads by close contact with an infected animal, and the incubation period ranges from 2 to 10 days. PPR is not known to spread to humans, and there is no known treatment, but secondary infections may be treated with antibiotics and a vaccine is available.
