A major disease that mostly affects cattle and water buffalo, hemorrhagic septicaemia (HS) is a fast-moving illness that can kill animals within hours. Symptoms include high fever, reluctance to move, painful swelling of the throat and respiratory distress.
Antibiotics can be used to treat the disease when it’s caught early enough, but because of the rapid course of the disease this is not often possible. Vaccines against HS are available and should be administered annually.
