GALVmed and Elanco Animal Health will convene stakeholders on sustainable tick control and acaricide management in Kampala, Uganda. The event which will be held on the December 6 and 7, 2023, will bring together participants closely working on animal health including representatives from Uganda government agencies, dairy sectors, veterinarians and paravets, academia, finance, NGOs and farmers.
The objective of this convening is to share perspectives of different stakeholders on issues around tick control, tick-borne diseases, and resistance to acaricides, interventions to date, and progress stakeholders can make collaboratively. The event is part of the Managing Animal Health and Acaricides for a Better Africa (MAHABA) initiative. MAHABA’s collaborative approach leverages synergies to maximizing benefits to Ugandan cattle and dairy producers. During this event, appropriate collaboration and implementation modalities will be discussed.
This stakeholder engagement meeting follows a virtual workshop with stakeholders in Uganda on tick control and acaricides management that took place on September 16th, 2022.
MAHABA was launched in 2022 by Elanco and GALVmed with the aim of supporting small-scale producers (SSPs) in Uganda and Nigeria by defining and implementing strategies to effectively manage tick infestations in cattle. The initiative will provide local cattle farmers with the necessary tools, including acaracides in Elanco’s current portfolio, and knowledge through an innovative digital platform to help address current acaricide resistance issues, thereby realizing significant livestock productivity gains.
MAHABA is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).
