GALVmed is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Johnson Ouma as the new Senior Director of Research & Development, effective October 11, 2021. Dr Ouma is a Kenyan research & development professional with over 25 years’ experience in animal health and agricultural research & product development. He joins GALVmed from the Africa Technical Research Centre, a multicultural joint venture that innovates and develops products for agriculture (including for livestock diseases), where he led the creation of the research centre and building of the team, the development of a coherent and strategic R&D vision, and the delivery of a pipeline of new products through numerous academic and commercial partnerships.
At GALVmed, Dr Ouma will play a leading role in shaping and delivering GALVmed’s Research & Development strategy centred on sustainable technologies addressing animal health challenges facing small-scale livestock producers.
GALVmed’s Product Development function harnesses the best available expertise and capabilities in academia, public research institutes and the commercial pharmaceutical sector to improve access to quality vaccines, medicines and diagnostics for the major livestock diseases impacting small-scale producers.
Dr Ouma has a PhD in Entomology and Genetics from Iowa State University (Iowa, USA) and holds a Master’s Degree in Parasitology (specializing in Veterinary Immunology and Parasitology) from Moi University, Kenya.
He will be based at the GALVmed Nairobi office- ILRI campus.
