Dr Tom Mitchell trained as a Chartered Accountant after completing his doctorate in Horticultural Biochemistry. He is a governance specialist in third sector non-profit and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) organisations with more than 30 years’ experience of advising and supporting clients.
He qualified with KPMG and gained international experience through a variety of worldwide roles with KPMG, PWC, Bank of Bermuda and Bank of Scotland. Tom set up CGPM Consulting LLP in 2008, originally to manage a contract on behalf of a former employer. He moved full-time into CGPM from mid-2011. Since then, the firm, which is a regulated firm of chartered accounts, has flourished with its focus almost entirely on non-profits and other organisations having regulatory oversight. The firm specialises in governance and finance support, and in regulatory-level investigations, including addressing financial irregularities, governance failures and the misconduct of senior employees.
In his personal life, Tom joined the Board of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland in 2008, became their Chair of Audit and Risk in 2010, stepping down in 2022. He was appointed in March 2019 to The Donkey Sanctuary, a £60m turnover global charity, and was made their Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee in June 2019. Tom also served as a Board member for nine years, four years of which were as Chair, at Dunedin Canmore Housing Association, leaving them in 2017.
Tom is based in Edinburgh and joined GALVmed’s Board in September 2024.
