Dr Timothy Wells

Dr Timothy Wells has four decades of experience in research and product development across the commercial and not-for-profit sectors, as well as extensive governance and advisory experience in global health, biotechnology and translational science.

Timothy holds a PhD in Chemistry from Imperial College London and an ScD in Biology from the University of Cambridge, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the UK Academy of Medical Sciences. He is also an advisor to Africa’s leading drug discovery centre: H3D in Cape Town, and continues to have many projects to help stimulate African science.

Throughout his career, he has held a range of roles, including Chief Scientific Officer in MMV from 2007 to 2024, Global Head of Research at Serono International SA, and Non-Executive Director of Kymab Ltd.

In MMV, as well as many new  products, he led the establishment of discovery collaborations which have produced 25 new chemical entities entering clinical development.  In parallel, the tools developed for malaria research have been shared across therapeutic areas in projects which included Malaria Box and Pandemic Response Box. In 2022, he received an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Dundee in recognition of his contribution to the control and eradication of this disease.

Timothy joined GALVmed’s Board in September 2026.
