On 15th October 2025, as part of the Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) 80th anniversary celebrations and on the occasion of the World Food Forum, the AgResults Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccine Challenge Project was recognised for its contributions in the area of Sustainable Livestock Transformation, One Health, Animal Health, and Reference Centres.
The FAO Global Technical Recognition Ceremony awarded best practices and innovative approaches from around the world that advance global food security, sustainable development and agrifood systems transformation. A panel of independent jury members, representing government, the private sector, NGOs, civil society, and academia with balanced regional representation, quantitatively assessed 407 applications from 72 countries before selecting the final 50 recipients.
The AgResults FMD Vaccine Challenge Project is an eight-year, US$17.34 million prize competition managed by GALVmed, which is incentivising the development of high-quality, regionally relevant FMD vaccines. By doing so, the project contributes to reducing the burden of livestock diseases, improving productivity, and strengthening animal health systems and supporting sustainable livestock production in Eastern Africa.
This recognition highlights the transformative impact of innovation and collaboration in tackling global challenges across the livestock sector. Through its market-driven approach, the AgResults FMD Vaccine Challenge Project is helping to drive progress toward stronger animal health systems, sustainable livestock development, and improved livelihoods.
