Dr Junaidu Maina

Board Vice Chair

Junaidu Maina joined GALVmed’s board in September 2019, and he is the current Vice Chair. He is Chair of the HR Committee, member of the Finance and Risk Committee, and observer of the Impact, Monitoring and Evaluation Advisory Committee.

He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Veterinary Science of Budapest, Hungary, in 1977; a Certificate in Agricultural Project Planning from University of Bradford in 1989; and a Fellowship diploma from College of Veterinary Surgeons, Nigeria, in 2004. He is also a recipient of many honours and awards.

Junaidu served in various cadres and retired in 2009 as Director for the Federal Livestock Department and Chief Veterinary Officer in Nigeria. He was official delegate to World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH), a Fellow College of Veterinary Surgeons Nigeria (CVSN) and former President of Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN). He is also an OIE accredited Technical Expert on evaluation of performance of veterinary services using the OIE-PVS (Performance of Veterinary Services) tools.

He is the Chairman of FAO-OIE Rinderpest Joint Advisory Committee (JAC) and a member of Steering Committee of the Pan African Veterinary Vaccine Center of the African (AU-PANVAC).

He is an independent livestock consultant and has completed consultancy assignments for FAO, OIE, WHO, ECOWAS (international level) and Federal and State Governments of Nigeria (national level), among others.

He currently lives in Nigeria.
