Policies

GALVmed is committed to protecting all intellectual property for livestock health research and development that is aimed at serving the public good.

GALVmed’s model of operation works because it respects the integrity and interests of its partners. To stimulate interaction while protecting interests, GALVmed has adopted a comprehensive intellectual property (IP) policy.

GALVmed’s IP policy is guided by the following overall principles:

  • Any IP policies are aimed ultimately at improving access to affordable livestock health products among poor livestock keepers.
  • Useful results of GALVmed-supported research are applied for the public benefit.
  • The agreements governing the acquisition, management protection and exploitation of IP related to GALVmed-supported activities are negotiated on a case-by-case basis, always with the objective of maximising public benefit.
  • GALVmed acts as a responsible partner to the private sector, adhering to and protecting the arrangements it has entered into.

GALVmed seeks to make its products as readily available and affordable in as many developing countries as possible.
